How to Clean Carpet Stains

by Anthony Taylor | Last Updated: January 14, 2022

There are many ways of how to clean carpet stains, depending on the type of stain. You must first rid the carpet of dust, any loose dirt, hair, and pet hair before pulling out the stain cleaners. Don’t only vacuum the carpets, but also move around under chairs, tables, and beds.

Coffee

Coffee Stains can be cleaned with equal parts vinegar and white vinegar. Put one cup of vinegar in two cups of warm water. Pour this mixture into the affected area on your carpet and scrub with a sponge or brush. You should repeat the procedure until the stain is removed completely.

Pets

Pet Stains can be removed by using equal parts hydrogen peroxide and white vinegar. Using a spray bottle or sponge, put equal parts of hydrogen peroxide and white vinegar onto the affected area on your carpet and scrub gently.

Don’t rub too hard. Scrubbing the stains will only make them worse. Be sure to rinse the area well after cleaning it with these two products.

Basic methods

Hot water

Hot Water Baths Hot water is used in many carpet cleaning procedures. However, certain strains are best removed by using a chemical carpet deodorizer instead of a hot water soak. These stains include chocolate, coffee, vanilla, chocolate cake, caramel, hazelnut, and fruit juices.

These stains should always be treated by a professional. To remove hot water stains, pour about a third of a cup of hot water into the affected area for 10 minutes. Then blot with a clean white cloth or towel.

Wet towels

Damp Towels are a great way to get rid of carpet stains. They allow the stained area to absorb the solution instead of repelling it. Soaking the area in a sink filled with deodorant or baking soda is another option. The chemicals in these products will help get rid of the smell as well as remove the stain.

Stain remover

Red Stain Remover If you are trying to find a red stain remover to try, look into ammonia. This type of cleaner works by breaking down the molecules of the red stain. Applying an ammonia-based remover directly to the stain will break the molecules down to tiny beads. This will dissolve the stain much faster than just using a detergent or chemical cleaning agent.

Alcohol

Rubbing Alcohol You can rub alcohol directly on stains using a cloth, cotton swab, or a sponge. Do not scrub directly-using alcohol will only scour and irritate the area. Apply the alcohol with a cloth, wipe the area and let it sit for 30 minutes before applying a detergent or cleaning agent. After rubbing with an alcohol swab, be sure to rinse it off thoroughly and dry it off completely.

Washing Your Carpets You can use white cloths dipped in white vinegar to blot spills. Take a white cloth and dip it in vinegar. Spread it thinly on the area that has been spilled. Wipe the area of the fabric where the spill occurred to remove any excess vinegar. You can also use white cloths dipped in the dishwashing detergent to clean up a carpet spill.

Dry Rub

A dry rub will remove dirt, grease, stains, pet stains, mud stains, and many other types of stains. To make a dry rub, simply add lemon juice and salt to the water. Mix them together until they are a liquid. Add your preferred fragrance and let it sit for about fifteen minutes. Then, vacuum or brush the mixture to remove all of the dirt and dust.

Rinse

Just like the tip above, using baking soda and laundry detergent is a great way to remove stains from your carpet. First, add two cups of baking soda to a large bowl and mix them until they become a paste. Next, add your laundry detergent and gently scrub the paste into the stains. Rinse thoroughly and then repeat if necessary.

Steam cleaning

Steam Cleaning You can use a steam cleaner or vacuum to clean your carpet. Most carpet cleaning products contain bleach. You may want to consider using a commercial steam cleaner or carpet shampoo to remove stains from your carpet. In addition, having a clean carpet is easier to maintain when it has been properly steamed. You can make your own steam cleaner at home or buy one at your local store.

Conclusion

Mop it Up You can mop up stains using one of these easy tips. If there is a spill in your sink, it is very easy to remove with water. For heavier stains, you can use a carpet cleaner and apply it with a rag. Follow the directions and you will have a clean carpet. Mop it up with white cloths or plain water as soon as possible.
