How to Clean Floor Grout

by Anthony Taylor | Last Updated: January 14, 2022

Many homeowners don’t know how to clean tile and grout properly. In fact, there are dozens of cleaning products on the market that are specifically designed for cleaning grout. If you are looking for a simple way to clean tile and grout in your home, you may be tempted to use these products. However, these products are harsh and may not be healthy for your family. Here are some tips to help you learn how to clean tile and grout properly.

Table of Contents

  • Liquid cleaners
  • Whitening solution
  • Improvised means
  • Floor cleaning tools

Liquid cleaners

One very effective way to clean tile and grout in your home is with oxygen-based liquid cleansers. This oxygen-based cleaning product, which isn’t technically chlorine-based, is extremely effective at removing dirt and stains from almost anything. However, it’s also one of the most powerful and should never be used on the grout. Never use this product on dirty grout, dirty tile floors, or polished cement.

Whitening solution

Another useful tip for cleaning tile and grout is to use a mild yet effective bleach solution. Make sure you choose an oxygen bleach that is made specifically for the cleaning of tile and grout. In general, any kind of bleach will do the job of cleaning your floors, but it’s important to pick the right one. A high-quality bleach won’t damage your floors or fixtures, but it will help get rid of stains and discolorations that can be very hard to remove.

Improvised means

The simplest way to clean tile and grout-cleaning machines can be expensive and messy. Many homeowners find that scrubbing the grout with a sponge and cleaning chemicals isn’t always the best solution.

Fortunately, there is an inexpensive yet effective way to get dirty grout-cleaning machines to shine again-white vinegar. Before you spend hundreds of dollars on a professional grout-cleaning machine, consider trying white vinegar.

White vinegar is a cheap yet effective way to remove dirt, stains, and discolorations from your floor. Since it is non-bleach, it is safe to use on tile and grout. To get started, soak up some warm water and mix in a cup of white vinegar with three cups of warm water. Use your scrub brush to scrub the stained area.

Be careful not to scrub too hard-this could cause staining. After you have removed the stains, fill the dirty areas back in with clean tile and grout and let it dry.

If you’re trying to clean grout in your bathroom, you’ll need a little more detailed and powerful equipment. Instead of using a regular sponge, try using a spray bottle with a small amount of water. Apply the solution to the entire area, making sure to apply generous amounts of the cleaner to avoid streaks. The spray bottle has small dots with a black dot at the tip, which is your “salt”.

Using minimal scrubbing power, you can do the job quickly and easily. When you are looking for a solution that does a good job without requiring you to apply too much pressure, try dish soap. It works great because it has a mild abrasive, but it is still mild enough so that you don’t damage your bathroom tiles or grout.

Some of the commercial floor cleaners contain abrasives like magnesium dioxide, which is extremely abrasive. You may be able to avoid this by going to a home store and asking the salesperson which products they recommend for minimal scrubbing. They will probably know since they sell commercial cleaning products at a good price.

Floor cleaning tools

As an alternative to using a mop or a brush, you can also use a soft sponge or a toothbrush to clean floor grout. Again, you want to avoid applying too much pressure on your cleaning solution, and you want to apply it very gently. It is best to use warm water when you are trying to clean floor grout, as the heat helps break down the dirt and grime.
